Munnar is a lovely, breathtaking and picturesque hill station which is located at a distance of 135 kilometers from Kochi, India. It is a very popular high altitude destination in India and also one of the popular tourist places in Kerala. No matter where you are in Munnar, it would seem like a landscape straight out of your desktop screen saver! Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain rivers, namely Kundala, Mudrapuzha and Nallathanni at a height of 1600 meters above sea level and once upon a time served as the summer resort of the British Imperials in South India.

If you love trekking then Munnar Hills is the place to visit this vacation owing to the highest peak in South India - Anamudi (height: 2695 m) which is very popular among trekkers. However Munnar is not famous for trekking only as every year thousands of tourists and adrenaline junkies visit Munnar in order to sprawl in the never ending acres of tea plantations or to explore the town and its winding lanes.  There are various other holiday facilities as well, which make this vacation a unique experience and definitely one of the must-visit tourist places in Kerala.

Munnar, which is located in God's own country Kerala is breathtakingly beautiful and one can experience peace and tranquility when visiting these scenic hills. If your idea of a perfect vacation is to be an idyllic tourist and stroll around in lush green hills then you would surely enjoy your visit to Munnar. Although there are plenty of othertourist places in Kerala but tourists still find themselves attracted towards Munnar every time, maybe because of the beauty of the place, or its enchanting scenery and appeal where one would wish never to leave.

A trip to Munnar means a trip to picturesque surroundings and breathing in fresh air which is often complimented with a heady aroma of tea when you are coming close to a tea factory. There are endless activities to do in Munnar, the idyllic surroundings are bound to enchant you and enthrall you with its beauty. No wonder Munnar is one of the most popular tourist places in Kerala!

One can visit Munnar anytime throughout the year but not during the monsoon season which falls on June or July each year. If you can't stand extremely cold weather then it is best to avoid visiting Munnar during winter season, i.e. during January or December. However, in case you do want to visit Munnar during winter season then make sure you take plenty of warm clothing with you because it is one of the coldest tourist places in Kerala during winters.

When in Munnar, be sure to take a look at the Neelakurunji flowers which grow on the Strobilanthus shrub and bloom only once in twelve years. It is considered to be auspicious to get a glimpse of these lovely flowers which form a mauve carpet on the hillsides. The next flowering can be witnessed in 2018.

Another must-do on the 'things to do in Munnar' list surely includes visiting the tea estates of Munnar. Munnar is essentially known as the 'tea town' and there are plenty of tea plantations everywhere in Munnar. The Tata Tea Company has taken over the tea plantations. One can visit the tea estates of Brooke Bond, AVT tea, Harrison Malayalam or Michael's Tea.

If you want to enjoy out-of-the-world panoramic views of Munnar then a visit to Echo point is a must. Rajamala is another famous tourist spot for spotting mountain goats as almost half of the earth's population of mountain goats can be found in Rajamala. The Eravikulam National Park is also worth a visit. There are many tourist places in Kerala but only a few of them are as 'magical' as Munnar so visit Munnar and experience the 'magic'.
